Run Yoga Eat: Gloanna

Running, yoga and food has pretty much kept me sane recently in my life of long work hours and professional exams – sigh. Without this combination, and sleep of course, I think I would have gone crazy.

A day which involves all three is ideal, having all three as part of a run is even better! So when we found out the people at Gloanna did just that we got involved straight away. With their free yoga training class coming up this Friday (see details at the bottom) we thought we’d give our round up of how we found the event last month.

The Gloanna event, understandably, sold out within 10 days! As it was their first race, places were limited to 200 people so organisation of the event was trialed and we found this was done really well.

Off to Alley Palley (Alexandra Palace) we went and straight away we were welcomed by all the Gloanna workers, we dropped off our bags and collected our race bibs. The race bibs we were given must be the dopest ones we’ve seen so far, all personalised with our names instead of generic race numbers. Obvs had to take a a few selfies with those bibs!

Gloanna definitely isn’t your usual run:

1) It wasn’t timed
2) The run begun with a champagne shot for each of us!
3) It ended with yoga – the best way to stretch after a run
4) We were given yummy sushi, fruit and champagne or VitaCoCo at the end of the yoga sesh

They were serious when they said it was a relaxed event. The run not being timed was a pleasant surprise as there was no pressure and no way for anyone to be disappointed if they didn’t make their PB. This was especially important for some of our friends who are new to running.

The 5km run involved two loops of the hills of Alley Palley, and if you know Alley Palley you know it is definitely not flat.

To take advantage of the hilly terrain we obviously had to roll down to the finish line. Literally ROLL DOWN.

After the rolling fun we all headed to the yoga tent for 45 minutes of vinyasa yoga on the grass with yoga mats provided. The yoga teacher was great and the class was accessible to beginners. There was a DJ playing tunes in the background, something you would not expect at a yoga class. I wasn’t complaining, had to buss a lil skank mid pose when this came on!

We are always sooooo hungry after any kind of exercise so to have edamame, fresh sushi, fruit and a glass of champagne was perfect. No frantic rushes to find the nearest restaurant like we usually do. Everything was well organised, from the waves of runners setting off to the transition to yoga and then a relaxing brunch.
