When you think of jellies and shots, do you think of jelly and ice cream like we do or do you think of those throwback uni days of cheap alcoholic jelly shots?! Either way, both are not necessarily the healthiest options out there. But there is something we’ve discovered - read on to find out more!
When we were approached by UK wellness brand Swisse Me to review their latest range of Boost Me Collagen Shots and Start Me Ginseng Jelly Sticks (the first nutritional jellies in the UK btw!) we were intrigued by three things:

Below we’ve given the down-low on the items we tried!
Boost Me Collagen & Blood Orange shots
What actually is it?
Blood orange flavoured shots with added 5g of collagen which can be drunk mid-afternoon, or when you need a bit of that extra energy boost! These shots are sold in packs of 7 - a weekly dose!
What are the benefits?
Its main benefit is to support a healthy glow - this would come from the 5g of collagen that is added in the shots. We do not claim to be scientific experts but from everything we know and read about collagen, especially when it comes to ingredients that are used a lot in beauty products, it is a key element that is claimed to keep your skin looking young, supple and bouncy - which in turn delays those pesky wrinkles forming. Naturally, our body produces this protein for our skin’s “bounce” and elasticity but as we get older this slows down which is why it is so commonly added to beauty products and why you’ll read loads about consuming products with collagen in it.
One thing we do know, as much as it is about what you do on the outside to your skin, what you put inside your body is equally as important! With anything you use of take, obviously don’t expect to see immediate changes in your skin’s texture right away.
Most importantly, is it tasty?
Yes it is! I don’t know what you imagine collagen to taste like, but it’s nothing we can put our finger on. The only flavour that comes through is that of the citrus from the blood orange.
Start Me Ginseng Jelly Sticks
What actually is it?
In essence, travel-size herbal jelly sticks - a healthy alternative if you’re craving that chewy sweetie texture. These jelly sticks are packed with Ginseng and Maca root which is great energy booster right before a workout or as a mid-morning snack.
What are the benefits?
Two key ingredients in this one - Korean Red Ginseng and Maca root. Ginseng is defined by colours - fresh, white or red - which determines how long it’s grown for. Red Ginseng would be harvested for 6+ years. Ginseng has proven beneficial antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, could also boost energy and your immune system! From a beauty side, it is also known as a natural skin balancer! There’s a reason why this is used widely across Asia (and now globally) in beauty products and why it is so key in Asian herbal medicines! On the flip side, Maca - another rooty herb - is known as a natural mood and energy booster. Combined in these Jelly Sticks, they are the perfect healthy snack to give you energy just before you hit that workout.
Most importantly, is it tasty?
Ginseng has an acquired taste, but in these Jelly Sticks they actually taste great - you won’t get the herby/rooty flavours you’d usually taste. Texture wise, you have to like that gelatinous texture. It may look like a running gel, and you may eat it like you would a running gel but it’s definitely not that (it actually makes me gag and brings back bad memories of long distance running days!). It literally just slips out the pack like a sweetie, which makes it quite fun!
